Embracing the freedom of public domain

As a self-proclaimed "public domain person", I've made a conscious choice to forgo the traditional trappings of credibility and ownership when it comes to my creative works. Instead, I've wholeheartedly embraced the freedom of the public domain, using open, public domain licenses for my software, art, music, and text.

You might think I'm a bit crazy for not wanting any credibility or recognition for my creations. But the reason is simple - I want to give freedom, not restrict it. By eschewing copyright and the need for attribution, I aim to make my work truly accessible and usable by all. There's a certain liberation in not being "held responsible" for any potential bugs or issues that may arise. My creations are out there for the world to freely enjoy, modify, share, and build upon.

I'm aware that copyleft licenses, which require derivative works to be shared under the same or compatible terms, are a popular choice in the free, libre and open-source software (FLOSS) community. However, the use of copyleft licenses doesn't fully align with my personal conscience. That's why I've chosen to release my work under the public domain, rather than under copyleft terms. For me, the public domain represents the purest form of creative freedom, without any strings attached.

In a sense, I've taken Shakespeare's famous words about "to be, or not to be" and applied them to the realm of intellectual property. Should I gatekeep my work, preventing it from being restricted or enclosed? Or should I let it roam freely in the public domain? For me, the choice is clear - I choose freedom. I choose to discard the shackles of copyright in favor of a world where creativity can flow unimpeded.

Of course, some may consider this stance a bit unconventional. But to me, it's a principled decision driven by a deep love of liberty. I don't need the validation of credits or attribution. What I want is to inspire that same sense of freedom in others - to make them feel unencumbered to build, remix, and share as they see fit.
